Irving Harper (July 14, 1916 – August 4, 2015) was an American industrial designer. Harper has become one of the most prolific designers of the modernist style. Among its most important projects, the company logo Herman Miller and the Marshmallow Sofa society. Harper was born in New York in 1916. He attended the Cooper Union and Brooklyn College, Irving Harper has worked as a draftsman for the office of Gilbert Rohde during the 1930s and his professional career has developed in many other studies design and important design.
In January 2016 the Wright Art Gallery presents an exhibition of his paper sculptures. An exhibition and an auction dedicated to the idiosyncratic series, extraordinary and diverse sculptures he made. Working in the attic of his home in Rye in New York, Harper has created large groups of works in a dizzying array of visual motifs, drawing on a wide range of artistic influences: from the classic to the tribals. Its primary material of choice was the paper of all weights and textures: those embossed and hammered to rough and smooth cards. Thanks to his executive skill and mastery of the material (very mild) created a remarkable and seemingly unlimited production of sculptures and decorative items.

Lavorando nella soffitta della sua casa di Rye a New York, Harper ha creato ampi gruppi di opere in una vertiginosa serie di motivi visivi, attingendo a un vasto insieme di influenze artistiche: da quelle classiche a quelle tribali. Il suo materiale primario di scelta era la carta di tutte le grammature e texture: da quelle goffrate e martellate ai cartoncini lisci e ruvidi. Grazie alla sua maestria esecutiva e padronanza del materiale (molto delicato) ha creato un notevole e apparentemente illimitata produzione di sculture e oggetti di arredo.
